Tattoo Aftercare

Derm Shield

When appropriate we use a derm shield clear film to cover your tattoo. A derm shield is a light, waterproof composite film bandage comprised of three layers: EVA film, matte PU film, and glassine. The matte PU film, which is the part of the bandage that remains on and protects the skin after tattooing, allows for optimal breathability and ductility.

Leave in place for 3 to 7 days depending on exultation (your people juice filling the bandage of the tattoo).

Derm Shield Instructions

  • Leave Derm Shield in place for 3-7 days
  • In the first 24 hours, there may be a build up of plasma under the Derm Shield – This is completely normal. If so, remove the bandage and reapply a new clean one. Once you remove our bandage, keep your tattoo clean and start using our aftercare cream as needed.
  • You may experience some redness around the tattoo where Derm Shield was applied to the un-tattooed skin. This is also completely normal and may occur with any type of medical adhesive. If you do develop an adverse reaction on the tattoo, discontinue use immediately.

Derm Shield Removal

  1. Peel up an edge or corner of Derm Shield. If this proves difficult, you can  attach medical tape to the corner of the film to help lift it.
  2. Slowly pull the film off. Do not pull it straight up away from the skin. Instead, pull the film back and across the skin while holding your skin taut.

Standard Aftercare

If the tattoo is in an awkward area and a derm shield cannot be used or if you remove the derm shield early follow these instructions:

  • Remove initial bandage after 2-3 hours with clean hands. Wash your tattoo with Anti-bacterial soap with your bare hands only. Gently pat dry with clean paper towels. Apply a very thin layer of ointment (artist will recommend one) to the entire tattoo.
  • DO NOT USE: Neosporin, Bacitracin, or petroleum jelly as they may clog pores and cause allergic reactions and/or infection.
  • Clean your new tattoo 2 times a day with anti-bacterial soap followed up with fresh ointment for about 5 days.
  • After that use unscented white lotion several times a day for the next 2 weeks.

DO NOT SCRATCH OR PICK AT YOUR TATTOO.

KEEP YOUR TATTOO OUT OF THE SUN.

DO NOT SOAK YOUR TATTOO.

KEEP YOUR TATTOO CLEAN AND IT WILL KEEP YOU HAPPY.
